About

A Point and a Pint! is a series of evening happy hours intended to promote learning, networking, and enjoyable conversation on topics related to community development, as an initial theme. The event is typically held at 6 pm at a specified location. It is free and open to the public, and participants are encouraged to arrive early, settle in, and begin to order their food and drinks ideally before the short talk begins.

WHAT IT IS:

  • Fun and casual learning and discussion
  • Welcoming
  • Educational
  • Prepared speakers; brief talks
  • Constructive discussion; respectful communication
  • Appreciation of perspectives that each person brings
  • A place for people here in Central Wisconsin, as well as visitors, to share knowledge
  • Teaching and learning from experiences near and far
  • May sometimes be a little bit like a "TED Talk" to inform and inspire, surprise and delight...

WHAT IT'S NOT:

  • NOT a lecture hall or classroom
  • NOT a formal meeting where decisions are made
  • NOT a place where Roberts Rules of Order are enforced
  • NOT exclusive; NOT a club
  • NOT politically-charged, NOT a rant
  • NOT advocacy-oriented
  • NOT a sales pitch

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Pleasant people
  • Parents may (and do) bring children
  • Food and drinks may be purchased on your own
  • Table service
  • Friday fish dinner specials (often)
  • It is easiest to arrive early place your food orders before 6 pm
  • Speakers are encouraged to make themselves comfortable too
  • Slideshows would only be used if the visuals were especially useful
  • A portable microphone may be used in case of a large crowd
